Meal Planning and Recipe Organizing with Plan to Eat
I’m in no way a strict meal planner. There is a lot of times that my wife and I look at each other and ask the dreaded, “What do you want for dinner?” question. But with attempting to limit time out and about because of COVID-19 and social distancing, it’s become more important to have a loose meal plan. I came across a digital tool called Plan to Eat that streamlines the planning and shopping experience.
The app is the perfect DIY meal planning tool that allows you to store recipes, create and edit shopping lists, create daily, weekly, monthly meal plans, and more. Plan to Eat does take a little bit of time to set up, but it was a pretty seamless process.
With Plan to Eat, you have a few options to get started with recipes.
- Manually- Have a recipe that’s been in the family for ages? The manual recipe entry is simple and will digitize your recipe for future generations.
- Import them from your favorite foodie website- This is the method I use the most. No longer do I have a massive list of bookmarked webpages. With a quick click of the button, Plan to Eat imports all of the ingredients and directions directly from the website of your choice (it’s almost magic how easy this is).
- Clip them from a website (i.e., Pinterest style)- Similar to Pinterest, where you can click a button on any website and save an image to your favorite board, the recipe clipper imports recipes while you are browsing on the web.
- Import them via HTML or CSV- This is a new option that I haven’t used before. It looks like if you have been using a different service like Paprika, Mastercook, Recipe Keeper, and more, you can bring that data seamlessly.
From a price standpoint, Plan to Eat is a steal. For less than $40.00 annually or less than $5.00 monthly, you get access to all of the Plan to Eat features. I also love the fact that there is a thirty-day, no questions asked trial period. There is no need to hand over your credit card information during the trial, and there are no automatic subscription renewals. This is one of the lowest stress digital subscriptions I’ve ever used.
The shopping list feature of Plan to Eat is so easy to use. It’s a grocery list that is automatically populated by the ingredients in your recipe meal plan. Have five meals planned for the week? Flip over to the shopping list and find an almost 100% accurate digital shopping list of everything you need. The shopping list is chunked out by the department most likely to contain your items. Need to add something on the fly? There’s a button for that right in the tool. Prefer to print out your last and take it with you to the store? You can do that too. No matter what preference is Plan to Eat has you covered.
Plant to Eat feels like the perfect companion to keeping a loose plan for meals throughout the week. Being about to collect, organize, and plan recipes and meals makes the process seem less like a chore and an actual relief. I know that I can pull out my phone and get a quick idea of what the evening prep looks like even while we’re at the park playing. Being able to check one more thing off the weekly to-do list is amazing.
